A+ ~~ Another favorite. Food was Yummy! Table décor was elegant. Price was very reasonable! And the staff (and owner Roxanne) were fun! I could go on but it's all good! No worries with this vendor.Affordable Catering

D ~~ The food was awesome and we received tons of compliments, but Brian (head dude) came in to set up looking nasty. We did have a few guests there early who watched him bring in food w/ his sweating armpit hair showing while he placed food around. He lied to DH about liquor stores being closed. The Berg lady (Sandy) ended up busing tables because they were doing it. They didn't give us the leftovers. The lady at the place said that they threw beer bottles in the parking lot before they left. We did complain and received a $100 refund. We'd definitely rather have good food and bad service than bad food and good service...but it shouldn't have to be like that. Sandy said that she's banning them from the Berg. I recommend the food, but make sure you don't get Brian. From: drewie
A ~~ They were very easy to work with, and the price was reasonable. We had an appetizer buffet with toasted ravioli, crab stuffed mushrooms (outstanding!), turkey roll-ups, chips & salsa, veggies with red pepper dip, imported cheese and crackers, bruschetta bar, and hot spinach & artichoke dip. We never ran out of food, it was all hot, their servers kept all of the tables well bussed, and the bartenders did a great job. I was a little worried with the recent bad reviews, but they totally came through for me!From: emy2401
A ~~ Had heard some sketchy things about them but they did an awesome job! They were pleasant and the food was good. The people who worked the actual event were polite and catered to everyones needs! Had great reviews of the food! From: KS*sparkler*
Leading up to the wedding, they weren't great about returning emails and made several mistakes in the paperwork that had to be corrected, so I was a bit worried going into the wedding day, but they came through with flying colors. The linens looked amazing, everything was set-up exactly where it should be, the food was good, and the clean-up was quick and accurate. From: ktgolfs
A ~~ The catering and their services turned out really well. We used them for our food, linens, glassware, dishes, bars, bartenders, and risers for the band and the head table. Jennifer is who we mostly worked with leading up to the event, then Elisha was our day of person. We were able to pick up the linens on Thursday so that we could set up early so that was nice. The food tasted good and the price was right. The service on the day of was right on. They did a good job. The only things I didn't like was that their offices smelled like smoke and the food tasting was anything over the top. I expected to taste more choices. From: med380
I know there have been mixed reviews of Affordable Catering, but they really came through for us. They were extremely helpful and paid close attention to what needed to be done. They made sure that we got to eat (they made us plates of food) and also made sure we had drinks. They stayed late (they were still there when we left at midnight) and even helped my parents clean up the centerpieces. We did the Italian buffet and got SO many compliments on the food. We also used their bartender and they did a great job. I definitely recommend them! From: MrsJeromy
A+ ~~ on pre-wedding. Jaime really kicked me in my butt. She helped me get everything in place...including my time line. B on the day of. They did good but it could have been better. The people they had working with them (not the main gal...I can't remember her name)were kinda gross looking and I thought the food could have been warmer (we were the first through the line). But really everything was good. From: NargesND
Working with Jayme was an absolute dream!!!!!! The ONLY complaint that I have is that there was no gravy to go with the mashed potatoes! I am not sure who's fault this is; Mine for not specifying that I wanted Gravy or Theirs for not saying "gravy isn't included" It didn't cross my mind until DH asked where it was. HE LOVES mashed potatoes and gravy, so I felt bad. They were very accommodating toward my wants and my vision. When Julie was setting of the buffet table, she was using Red Roses and I asked if there was any way to not use them. I ended up having a lot of extra fake callas, so she used those. She didn't seem upset that she had to redo some of the arrangements. It turned out beautiful. FINAL SCORE: 5 bouquets - I got stuffed on the crab stuffed mushrooms and cocktail shrimp, so I didn't eat that much of the meal, but people said that it was delicious. From: sarah&joe
A ~~ The food was really good and I didn't even notice the servers replenishing food and taking care of the buffet. In the morning I kind of snapped at the woman setting up the tables, but she was really patient and nice to me. I was a little weirded out because the woman I had been dealing with the whole time (at all of my meetings) was not the woman who was there attending my event. I wish I would have been able to have my meetings with the person who would be doing the actual work. From: wilsontobe
A ~~ When we showed up at the reception, it looked better than I thought. The decorations were beautiful, as was the buffet and cake table. The food was great – we had Caesar salad, brisket, apple baked pork loin, hash brown casserole, and green beans almondine. Everybody loved the food, and the service was spectacular. Plus, the bartenders we got through Affordable were awesome. They were so friendly and personable with everyone, and when we started running low on beer at 8 p.m., with a couple hours still to go, one of them drove to the liquor store to pick up more beer! The night would not have run as smooth without the services of Affordable.Assured Waitstaff

A- ~~ I loved working with Laura Eddy-Vogt and Dawn Webber at Bonterra Catering & Events. They were both totally on their game at all times, and Eddy’s serves first-class, eclectic food that goes well above and beyond the standard rubber chicken usually served at large events. I LOOOOVED the fusion fare hors d’hoeuvres menu that we went with, and only wish I would’ve eaten more of it at the reception! We also had a mashed potato bar to cover Tom’s Irish heritage that was a big hit. The only reason I gave an A- was that I was expecting some of the reception food for our “midnight snack” box, but instead got a turkey sandwich, fruit and chocolates. It wasn’t bad, mind you, but I was REALLY looking forward to more of the food I know they do exceptionally well!!Brancato's Catering

A ~~ We chose Brancato's after going to one of their tasting's at their new showcase. We were referred to them by our Reception Site and sampled food at a Bridal Show. We worked with Vernon Greene who was excellent! He was extremely accommodating and knowledgable. He gave us a lot of options and worked with our budget. Vernon was always on top of things and very relaxed. The food was excellent, especially the Basil Cream Chicken. We received a TON of compliments. The staff was organized and very polite. The only glich: my mom & aunt decided they would set the tables themselves to save money. Brancato's didn't deliver enough plates, so with one phone call my mom called to tell them & they immediately brought more. Overall, I didn't worry about a thing with them either!

A+ ~~ Shawn's food is wonderful. It tastes like restaurant food instead of caterer food — even better, he is really reasonably priced. He also did a kid's buffet with chicken fingers, mac & cheese and fruit salad for only $8 per child. We got lots of compliments on how delicious everything. Shawn was even our savor and cut the cake for us.From: Rockstar79
A+ ~~ This was one of my favorite vendors. Shawn was awesome and his food was delectable. Restaurant quality, not banquet quality. We got lots of comments that this was some of the best wedding food our guests had ever tasted. His ziti is the best and he packaged up leftovers for us to take back to the hotel. We had a feast of asparagus and ziti with our wedding party that night after the reception. Wonderful to work with - a bit disorganized on the surface but he knows what he's doing and he totally comes through for you. I love Shawn and I would recommend him to anyone, especially Club 1000 brides.Cafe Sebastienne

B ~~ The food was awesome! The staff was great about clearing plates and making sure that James and I didn't have to worry about anything. They were also great about filling water glasses all night. The brisket and chicken were a bit on the dry side, but the pork was absoluely amazing! However, they were supposed to make 2 plates of food for us and send them to our rooms and never did-we ended up driving into Lawrence at 2am to get McDonalds.Cigar Box

2007 Cost -- Starting at $30 a plateA- ~~ Without fail the best wedding food I've ever had! We had three menu options, and the staff handled everything great. The only problem is that they brought out the wrong side with the salmon, but once they realized the error, they brought out the side on an extra plate. I found the pricing very competitive for the quality of food. It didn't cost any more for us to have a plated dinner than a buffet, which was nice. Per plate costs start at $30 and that includes three butlered appetizers per person, a salad (we served the sunflower spring salad -- yummo), the main course with a side and vegetable medley and the serving of the cake to each table. My only complaint from one of our guests was that the appetizers ran out pretty early in the cocktail hour.

The food was excellent and everyone completed on how good it was. The draw back of using the Loretto was having to pick from their list of 3 caterers, but that being said it helped narrow down the options. We did a buffet w/ 2 meat options, 2 sides, bread and salad. The also provided the table clothes the Loretto requested us to use.Holiday Inn

The food is amazing. We did passed hors d’oeuvres with six choices - crab cakes, mini kobe beef meatloaves, chicken satay, mini pigs in a blanket, micro burgers and shrimp quesadillas. We also provided a full open bar. Yes, it is more pricey because it is a "one stop shop"...but I was willing to splurge on food and booze and give up other things. A ~~ Garen with HyVee was amazing. When I started greeting the guests at the reception the first question I asked was "How’s the food?" not one person had anything negative to say! Excellent food, great service, everything went perfect with them! People raved about the food and was surprised when I told them who my caterer was. We had BBQ brisket, ham steaks with pineapple, cheesy au gratin potatoes, green beans with garlic and bacon, baked beans, pasta salad, and rolls. All very yummy! We didn’t want to use their plates that were included in the price and they let us swap them for iced tea. Cost: $15-$27 per personA+ ~~ The food was so good and displayed beautifully!!!! We did all appetizers served buffet style. Garden salad, cocktail sandwiches, wings, mozzerella sticks, fruit, cheese tray, and veggies n'dip. So good! St. Andrews Golf Club doesn't let you bring in any outside caterers and they don't let you take leftovers home. Funny story about the wings; when we met w/ Amanda to go over the last minute stuff, she suggested we request a ligther sauce for the wings since they are messy. Well she wrote the request on a post-it for the chef. He understood it as the Bride wanted the sauce just for her. So throughout the reception different people from the staff (including the chef) kept coming up to me to tell me my wings w/ the special sauce were waiting on our sweetheart table. I knew it was some kind of mistake b/c I don't eat wings. Just kept saying to them ok, thanks. I finally had to ask Amanda what was going on. Just a story to show you how caring the staff was.

They also provide disposable silverware/plates if necessary.A++++ ~~ Slick and his serving staff and bartenders were the best I've ever seen at a reception. They kept the buffet line going, never ran out of food, the bartenders were personable and they even gave me a dozen white roses as a wedding gift! I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking to have something different for their reception buffet. I don't know where to start with this one. To me, vendor reviews are a simple as "Yes I Recommend Them" or "No - I Don't" but us brides take it to a new level... Anyway, I don't know which I would say about Lynn. She was easy enough to work with during the planning process (though lacked phone etiquette) and her cake did taste good but…. In hindsight, I would have gone through AC for my cake. First - My deposit check which I gave her in December 04 still hasn't cleared! This worried me up until I saw her deliver the cake because I didn't know if she'd come thru or not. I did call and confirm that we were still a go, but it was just a weird hassle. I need to email her and ask if she's ever going to cash that bad boy. Second - Though Similar Looking, it didn't look like the picture of the cake I wanted. I know this is something only the bride notices, but we paid her to deliver an exact duplicate, and she didn't. Still a pretty cake, just a little let down. Third - The Top tier almost fell off! During Dinner I looked over and saw that the top was totally crooked and ask J-Beck to either salvage it or take it out. It had to be taken off. Fourth - This really isn't a negative, but just again, weird. For some reason, she mad us a grooms cake, and when I saw it and inquired what it was she said "it is the grooms cake you ordered" I said I never ordered a grooms cake (which was true) and then she realized that she misread the order sheet and that I could keep it. I am not complaining about getting free dessert, but just worried that maybe next time she'll read an order sheet and short someone! FINAL SCORE: 3 1/2 bouquets out of 5From: TaraRae82
D ~~ This is the only vendor we were less than impressed with. I gave her (Lynn, caterer) 2 pictures of the cake I wanted and my cake didn’t end up looking like that at all. It was still pretty but not what I wanted and not my taste. It was supposed to be stacked and instead had pillars between each layer. It was white instead of ivory. It had some bithday cake-esque scalloped white icing at the base of each tier on top of the red ribbon that was not supposed to be there. The flowers were set on the corners of each tier instead of gathered on top, and the silver stand it was supposed to be set on was no where to be seen. I have no idea when they left because I never saw them nor did they speak to me the entire evening. I guess they decided when it was ok to leave. I went to get some of the chocolate fountain, which I hadn’t even seen yet, and they had already left. That was at about 9:30pm. The event went until midnight. I didn’t expect them to stay until midnight but it would’ve been nice if they’d discussed their plans with me. We were not ready for them to leave when they did. My Mom hadn’t seen them leave either. They left some chocolate in a large plastic punch-type bowl and it looked tacky. The “linens” they claimed to provide for the food tables along with skirting turned out to be plastic table cloths. They took all of the table décor when they left so I had 2 plastic covered, undecorated, 8’ long tables with the bowl of chocolate and 2-3 platters of some random food. No food was boxed up for us to take back to our hotel except our top tier and that was boxed up and left on the cake table. I would not recommend this vendor. B ~~ Powell Gardens requires couples to use their catering service, which was fine with us since it's one less thing to worry about and research! Met with Jaime and she was very helpful and easy to work with. We were not able to taste the food at our meeting because they only do one or two tastings a year and we had just missed one. Some of our food choices were very good, but a couple of them were not. Had we been able to do a tasting, we would have known this...
